Crooked Shapes

'Crooked Shapes'

Crooked Shapes are a 3 piece Alternative Hard Rock band from Reading, UK.

Formed in 2018, they have been gigging up and down the country and released their debut EP in 2019.

Although just a 3 piece, they produce a sound far bigger than what you’d expect with cutting vocals and harmonies, huge guitar riffs, thunderous bass grooves and powerful hard hitting drums.

'Crooked Shapes' is an instrumental that has all the hallmarks of the classic metal sound and riffs from back in the day with heavy ass guitar backed by thumping bass and thunderous drums. Next up is 'Chains In My Mind', which has a sinister and creepy vibe before haunting vocals join the fold and the whole track has an aggressive yet poignant feel throughout.

'Fire' starts off this debut album with a hard hitting and heavy number which flows nicely with a kickass beat.

'Leave Me For Dead', drops the pace for this grungy dirty guitar driven track, before melodic vocals come in and meld into the changing pace and style throughout.

'Appetite' is another rockier number with an upbeat and lively vibe with a huge chorus and plenty of riffage.

'Fallout' raises the tempo with this more upbeat and bouncing number with a wonderful riff before a fabulous chorus changes the pace perfectly then back again. This is a real head bobbing feet tapping track.

'Rise Again' again starts with a riff driven guitar intro that continues through alongside an upbeat and flowing number both musically and vocally. Next up is 'Fly', which is heavy and intense with a beat that drives forward at pace with great vocals that complement perfectly.

'Don't Look Back' ends this album with a punchy guitar driven anthemic number that has a fabulous building feel that ends with an uplifting chorus before we are back with that anthemic feel. It has the obligatory guitar solos thrown in for good measure. This is a strong end to a very good debut album from these guys and will make for a strong set list when taken to the stage.

TFM gives the self titled debut album a solid 9/10. A strong release that they should be very proud of.
