The Kris Barras Band - Live Review

The Harlington - Fleet 22nd February 2019

Buffalo Summer, hailing from Neath, South Wales, are new to me. But, with two albums down and a third not that far away, not new to the rock n roll scene.

They open with ‘If Walls Could Speak’ and then straight into ‘Truth From Fable’, the evening has started well!

‘Little Charles’, ‘Make You Mine’ and ‘Heartbreakin Floorshakin’ follow in quick succession.

The songs kept coming. Each one taking a slightly different direction from the previous, but keeping to a funky, bouncy rock sound.

Songs from both albums [Buffalo Summer and Second Sun] plus a few new ones, make up a strong, twelve song 45 minute set.

The band, Darren (Bass), Gareth (drums), Jonny (guitar) and Andrew (vocals) have been together for a while and, it shows. Well worth a listen and of course, see them live.

Full set list:

'If Walls Could Speak', 'Truth From Fable', 'Little Charles', 'Make You Mine', 'Heartbreakin’ Floorshakin’', 'Priscilla', 'A Horse Called Freedom', 'As High As The Pines', 'Neverend', 'Rolls On Through', 'Down To The River', 'Money'.

Will I spread the word/see them again? A big YES!

Kris Barras Band, there’s not much I can add to what has been said already about these guys.

This is my third time seeing The Kris Barras Band  and, they just get better and better. Two albums down (Lucky 13 and The Divine and Dirty) and a third recorded, KBB just get stronger.

First little ditty ‘Rock n Roll Running Through My Veins’ sets the foot tapping and head nodding.

‘Kick Me Down’ and ‘Stitch Me Up’ keep the tempo going (and my foot tapping/head nodding).

‘I Don’t Owe Nobody Nothing’ and a new track ‘What You See (Is What You Get)’ keeps the pace going and is followed by KBB’s cover of Led Zepplin’s ‘Rock and Roll’ giving the crowd a bit of a participation. ‘Heart On Your Sleeve’ up next and followed by, probably the best ever version of Will Smith's ‘Fresh Prince’!

‘Propane’ is followed by a few new tracks ‘Light It Up’ and ‘Vegas Son’. The very poignant ‘Watching Over Me’, in my opinion, one of Kris’s best tracks, is one of the best bluesiest rock tracks out there.

Two more from ‘The Divine And Dirty’, ‘Wrong Place At the Wrong Time’ and ‘Hail Mary’ finish, what has been a great night of British Blues Rock. Finish? Not quite, ‘Lovers Or Losers’ is the encore song.

Full set list:

'Rock n Roll Running Through My Veins', 'Kick Me Down', 'Stitch Me Up', 'I Don’t Owe Nobody Nothing', 'What You See Is What You Get', 'Rock n Roll (Led Zep Cover)', 'Heart On Your Sleeve', 'Fresh Prince', 'Propane', 'Light It Up', 'Vegas Son', 'Watching Over Me', 'Wrong Place', 'Hail Mary', 'Lovers Or Losers'.

The Kris Barras Band have been awarded Planet Rock'sThe Best New Band 2018’ and, with a new album coming out later this year, 2019 is going to be another great year for them.
