A rare artist who's always sounded older than his years, Sullivan has been touring the world since he was 11-years-old, playing storied venues such as Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood Bowl and RFK Stadium in Washington D.C., as well as India's Mahindra Blues Festival, Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival, and three Montreux Jazz Festivals. Quinn has shared the stage with his hero and mentor Buddy Guy, as well as Carlos Santana on several occasions. Quinn’s performance experience includes appearances on leading national television programs such as The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and The Oprah Winfrey Show, to name a few..
This Massachusetts native has taken the abundant skills of his youth and now, as a young adult, is letting them blossom and steer him into new directions of artistry and creativity.
"I want to stay true to where I come from, and go from there," says Sullivan. "The artists that inspire me to do that are always hungry for the new. They never repeat themselves. They just grow and become more unique, and that's what I aim to do as an artist."
'All Around The World' brings us a wonderful soulful and uplifting tune to kick off this album. A lovely and vibrant opener with fabulous vocals and sumptuous guitar. A great way to start.
'She's So Irresistible' is a slower and funkier number at the start that builds to a wonderful chorus then continues carrying you along for the ride, and it is a quality ride.
'How Many Tears' is a beautifully presented story of heartbreak and finding love again. Soulful and heartfelt throughout, followed by 'In A World Without You', which is a funkier rockin' number with an addictive beat and a wonderful flow. Again plenty of excellent guitar throughout.
'She's Gone (& She Ain't Coming Back)' is definitely more of a ballad, more like a modern day pop country vibe.
'Baby Please' is a joyful and upbeat number that has a wonderful vibe that instantly takes you to a better place. Another fabulous sound from start to finish.
'Real Thing' lifts the beat for a track that bounds along from the start and keeps that going throughout, before we have 'You're The One', which is a funky love song with a nice vibe.
'Wide Awake' has a dirty bluesy opening which builds to a big chorus that will have you singing along for sure. 'Strawberry Rain' is a heavier and grungier number but still maintaining a wonderful vocal tone. Great funky guitar sound.
'Jessica' finds us with just an acoustic and vocal opening that has the most wonderful vibe. Beautiful and emotive, before we finish this album with 'Keep Up', which is another with a wonderful opening both musically and vocally. Piano is sounding beautiful alongside Quinn's fabulous vocals. An excellent end to a wonderful release.
Having developed genuinely jaw dropping skills as a guitar player, Sullivan's more recent learning curve has been with pen and paper. "I've always considered myself a songwriter," he says. "On the last few records, it just wasn't something I was doing all the time. I was focused on other things, like my guitar playing and developing my vocals, both of which I continue to do."
This is genuinely a wonderful album that showcases Quinn's fabulous guitar playing complementing a wonderful vocal display throughout. Each song is sung with soul and feeling and transfers across to us the listener by creating a believable and exceptional record. TFM gives 'Wide Awake' a fully deserved 9/10. An artist that has all the talent to go all the way to the top. https://quinnsullivanmusic.com/
