Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown
'Truth And Lies' Album Review
June 28th 2019 sees the release of the latest album by Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown titled 'Truth And Lies'. It is a collection of 13 new tracks and it is set out as the band would play the songs live.
They have spent the last few years touring the globe supporting some of the biggest names in rock music including AC/DC, Aerosmith, Guns N Roses and even Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and I'm sure a lot of these tunes were penned on the road.
The album release show will be held at the High Watt in Nashville Tennessee on June 28th...
'Shock And Awe' has a mid tempo funky infectious beat with intense choruses. This gives us a great start to the album. This is followed by 'On To The Next' which has a heavier start before Tyler's vocals kick in to great effect. You will be singing along with the chorus in no time. These first two tracks have been released as singles so a lot of people will already be familiar with them.
Next up is 'Ride' which is a more bluesy number, again with a chorus that you will be singing along with, and some trademark Tyler guitar work.
'Shape I'm In' is a slower ballad with just Tyler vocal and guitar intro before the band come in after about a minute. Still a real ballad feel but with a really nice flow and again some beautiful guitar work. 'Eye To Eye' is full on TBSD from the off, vocally and musically. This is the sound you expect from these guys now. Your feet will be tapping and your head bobbing.
'Panic Button' has a great flow and vibe to it which rises for the chorus then back again for the verse. This is followed by 'Judgement Day', a slow start with Tyler's vocals, but with a subtle musical accompaniment that allows this track to move along effortlessly.
'Drive Me Mad' has driving drums from Caleb with full on guitar mode by Tyler, Graham and Noah. Already you can see this will be a crazy live tune and I'm sure will soon become a fans favourite, and one where the boys can just let loose.
'Without You' is another guitar driven number that has a really hefty tone before we are treated to a mild verse vocally before the chorus erupts like a volcano.
'Trouble' has a wonderful slide start which gives this a real bluesy back beat, matched with some great musicianship and solid vocals which all make for a great track.
A few months ago now Tyler played a tune on his Patreon channel that didn't even have a title yet. It was a beautiful and humble track. I was pleasantly surprised to find it not only now has a title, but it is even part of this album. It's called 'Out There'.
'Cry Wolf' feels immense after the quieter previous track with its strong verses with big choruses. Last up we have a track called 'Couldn't See The Fire'. Tyler said recently in an interview that this was supposed to be a slower and quieter tune but as the album developed so did this song. We have a wonderful controlled heavier beat with a gut wrenching guitar solo that gives us a wonderful end to another very good release by Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown.
This is the second release through Snakefarm Records after the successful self titled release in 2017. This again shows maturity in the writing, but also keeping the trademark TBSD sound which works so well. TFM gives 'Truth And Lies' 4.5/5. It is a must have for any fan of good honest bluesy rock n roll with a southern edge. However good these guys are on record, they are one band that you definitely need to see live at some point in your life, it really is a wonderful experience.
